The countdown clock is ticking as Pattaya prepares to welcome thousands of joggers and competitive runners for the annual Pattaya International Marathon. It’s the 15th year of a successful event that is now firmly in the sports calendar of thousands of joggers. It is also probably the oldest international marathon in the country and attracts as many as 3,000 runners many of them serious competitors, especially in the full and half-marathon events. There are sub-events to ensure that beginners can have as much fun running as the competitive semi professional runners, who will hope to beat the course’s best time at two hours and 37 minutes. Even youngsters and families are encouraged to run so the event takes on the characteristics of a carnival.

Phuket Race Week 2008

Raceweek is now the highlight of Phuket’s “green season”.
The Six Senses Phuket Raceweek 2008, some times called Phuket’s ‘Green Season’ regatta, is now in its fifth year, and is attracting a fleet of yachts for an exciting race series that battles the southwest monsoon breezes off Phuket’s coast 23-27 July.

As in the past the event retains the same one-regatta-one-venue format, combining four days of competitive racing with five nights of waterside parties, while adding new dimensions.

For the first time a special Raceweek programme, commissioned by the organisers, will be televised on sporting and lifestyle channels such as CNN Mainsail, Eurosport, Star Sports and European Sailing Channel, gaining the attention of an international audience.

Raceweek 2008 will incorporate the inaugural NRG Cup, providing more party space for competitors, while Six Senses title sponsorship means participants and spectators can enjoy five-star buffet spreads at every party.

On the racing scene, the eye-catching Firefly racing catamarans will be present in even greater numbers, plus the cruising class and the old ladies of the regatta, the striking classic boats competing for the Seraph Perpetual Trophy.

Rodenstock, Mont Clair Wines and Johnny Walker will fund a late afternoon Rodenstock Happy Hour and a free-flow open bar throughout all the official regatta parties.
The NRG Cup is expected to attract at least 10 boats and crews that have never before competed in Phuket’s ‘Green Season’ regatta.

Weather forecasts hint of excellent sailing in mostly reliable breezes of 15 knots and frequent showers to cool off participants.

Raceweek has the backing of the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, the Sports Authority of Thailand and the Tourism Authority of Thailand and is run under the auspices of the Ao Chalong Yacht Club.
